Lynn and Inner Dowsing Wind Farms
Tuesday 11 August 2009
Lynn and Inner Dowsing are two adjacent wind farms which were built 5km off the Lincolnshire coast, east of Skegness. They are each 90 MW wind farms which together are expected to provide power to 130,000 local homes.

Each of the two wind farms consist of 27 turbines. Power from the turbines is transmitted ashore via three subsea buried cables per wind farm.
Resolution was chartered to install the 54 foundations and turbines over a 2 year period. During 2007 all the foundations were installed and during 2008 all the turbines were be installed, both wind farms are now operational
The foundations were manufactured in Belgium and transported by barge down river to the port of Vlissingen. At the port, Resolution loaded the monopiles and transition pieces from the transport barge utilising her 300t crane. For the load out, Resolution "jacked" clear of the water to aid crane operations. Five sets of foundation components were loaded per cycle, a total of eleven cycles were used to complete the foundation installation
Onboard Resolution, construction crews were provided to carry out all the installation activities associated with the foundations working round the clock for continuous offshore operations. To load the monopiles into the pile guide, the piles were "tailed" vertically by means of Resolutions 300t crane and SPMT multi-axle low loaders. On occasions when the monopiles "refused" before being driven to final depth, drilling techniques were used to allow the pile to be driven to final depth.
During early 2008 installation of the turbines commenced for which a deck load plan for Resolution was developed accommodating six complete turbine units. The turbines were supplied by Siemens Power Generation based in Denmark; each turbine has a capacity to generate 3.6MW of electricity. The load out port selected was Esbjerg and Resolution used her 330t crane to bring aboard each turbine component. Each turbine tower installed is approximately 80 metres above mean sea level and has a rotor diameter of 107 metres, giving a total height to blade tip of 134metres.
