Rhyl Flats Wind Farm Ltd in collaboration with RWE Renewables UK Ltd and MPI Offshore have just completed the exchange of a generator on the Siemens 3.6MW turbine at Rhyl Flats Windfarm in record time. Following the failure and subsequent investigation, the decision to exchange the generator was taken by RWE on Tuesday. 16th March 2021. MPI Offshore immediately mobilized their jack up vessel MPI Adventure in short notice and proceeded to the site on Thursday with the replacement generator on board. Following a successful exchange this morning, just 3 days from the decision to exchange, MPI Adventure has since jacked down and is returning to the Port of Larne to continue with O&M activities in the Irish Sea. The Service Technicians of RWE Renewables UK Ltd will continue to commission the generator and expect the turbine to return to full generation in record time by the close of the working day on Sunday 21st March 2021.

Michael Bradley, General Manager, Rhyl Flats Wind Farm Ltd said;

 “Undertaking work of this nature and at such short-notice can cause significant pressures to a team. We spent Wednesday, prior to contract signing, looking at all the risks, the current Covid-19 Government Guidelines, the feasibility, the resources required and the potential impact to personnel involved to ensure all bases were covered and that everyone was comfortable to take on the opportunity. The execution of this task in the given time-frame and without any detriment to our high Health and Safety standards or quality has been exceptional. As well as MPI Offshore and RWE Renewables UK, the project was supported by SPaCE and North sea Logistics. I would like to say big thank you to all involved.”
