Activities

Delivering complex projects

MPI Offshore provides integrated marine services across the full lifecycle of offshore wind assets. With dedicated jack‑up vessels and a highly experienced team, we support projects from installation and construction through to operations, maintenance, and end‑of‑life decommissioning.

As part of Van Oord, we combine specialist vessel capability with deep technical expertise, enabling us to execute complex offshore activities safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Our flexible approach and strong client partnerships allow us to deliver reliable solutions across the UK, Europe, and beyond.

Operation & Maintenance

MPI Offshore entered the offshore wind O&M market in 2020 with two dedicated jack‑up vessels:
MPI Resolution and MPI Adventure. We operate primarily across the UK and Europe, supporting major clients and operators including Vattenfall, RWE, Ørsted, and Eneco. Our focus is on delivering innovative, efficient O&M solutions tailored to project needs.

Our services range from vessel charters with lifting capability to full turnkey solutions for major component exchanges and non‑installation works. We also provide accommodation and vessel support for WTGs and offshore substations.

We work closely with clients through long‑term framework agreements, enabling flexible planning and highly efficient project execution.

Recent example

A multi‑site campaign in the Irish Sea where we completed several major component exchanges across four wind farms under a single mobilisation and demobilisation.

Installation

As turbine sizes increase, secondary steel installation has become a key part of offshore wind construction. MPI Offshore supports both transition piece campaigns and secondary steel installation scopes.

Recent examples

Thor project

On the Thor project in Denmark for RWE, MPI Adventure installed 78 sets of secondary steel, including boat landings, upper ladders, and concrete access platforms, over a seven‑month period.

Sofia Offshore Wind Farm

Sofia is a 1.4 GW offshore wind farm developed by RWE on the Dogger Bank, which will deliver renewable electricity to approximately 1.2 million homes from 2026 onwards, making a significant contribution to the UK’s energy transition.

Van Oord UK was responsible within Project Sofia for the integrated execution of the EPCI contract for the monopile foundations and array cables. The organisation oversees project delivery, logistical coordination, offshore installation activities, and collaboration with the UK supply chain, thereby making a crucial contribution to the delivery of one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world. Van Oord deployed the vessels Aeolus and Calypso which were instrumental delivering this complex project for RWE.

General construction

With powerful cranes and jacking capabilities, our vessels support a wide range of offshore and nearshore construction activities.

MPI Offshore has contributed to multiple innovation projects under the GROW programme, advancing research and development in offshore wind:

  • SIMOX: Underwater noise monitoring research.
  • SIMPLE III: Collaboration with Cape Holland, where MPI Adventure installed and retracted a scaled monopile six times at the HKW test site using vibro driving and vibro jetting.

Installation of multiple gantries at Hinkley Point C, UK.

Decommissioning

As early‑generation wind farms approach end of life around 2030, the decommissioning market is rapidly expanding. MPI Offshore is committed to delivering safe, innovative, and cost‑effective decommissioning solutions.

Recent example

At Robin Rigg, MPI Offshore removed the full turbine assembly (blades, tower, nacelle), followed by the transition piece and part of the monopile. We have also decommissioned several met mast structures in recent years
